EXPLORE THE
Reece Farm & Heritage Center
The Reece Farm and Heritage Center is the lifelong home of Byron Herbert Reece. Early visionaries bought and preserved the property and held it in trust until it could be resigned into its current use as an area for recreation, celebration, and to learn about Reece and the mid-twentieth century agrarian lifestyle.
“I am a farmer first and a writer second.”
BYRON HERBERT REECE
Deeply Rooted In Appalachian History
Nestled at the foot of Blood Mountain, just below Vogel State Park, lies the hidden gem called the Reece Farm & Heritage Center. The over 9 acre historic farmstead has been restored to give visitors a peek into what life was like in the Appalachian Mountains for Reece and his family. The farm now features a Welcome Center, Gift Shop, and barn connected with a winding trail to give visitors an educational tour of the property. Signage and displays throughout provide context to each stop on the trail.

The journey of restoring The Reece Farm
The journey of the Reece property to the Farm & Heritage center it is today was one of cooperation, vision, generosity and persistence. The site was designed by architect Garland Reynolds of Gainesville. Grants were developed through Union County government and the Georgia Mountain Regional Commission, Georgia Department of Transportation, OneGeorgia Authority, and Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Additional funding from TVA, Blue Ridge Moutain EMC, United Community Bank and the Grassroots Foundation for the Arts. Gifts by private donors and pro bono services of many made the Farm a reality.
In the years since beginning the project it has been improved and expanded many times with the addition of public art, a petting zoo, an additional building for display of agricultural tools, native plantings, and a walking trail to Vogel State Park
